Repeat Teen Pregnancy

Of the teens (ages 15-19) that experienced pregnancy over the past six years, an overall average of 33.6% of them were repeat pregnancies. The data suggests a slight decrease in repeat teen pregnancies in the 2004-2007 period. In 2007, of the 698 total pregnancies to teen mothers (ages 15-19), 224 (32.1%) of them were repeat pregnancies. Although Black females in this age group have a higher number of repeat pregnancies when compared to White or Hispanic females, the disparity is less than that observed for overall teen pregnancies.

Definition: Repeat Teen Pregnancy Rate is a proportional rate defined as the total number of repeat pregnancies (reported fetal deaths, induced abortion, or live births) in a specified age group (e.g. ages 15-19). In Chatham County, there were 698 pregnancies to mothers (ages 15-19) in 2007. Of this number, 224 were repeat pregnancies, comprising 32.1% of the pregnancies for this age group.

Formula: ((Total repeat pregnancies in age group / Total pregnancies in age group) X 100)
